Write Protect
Vou can prevent any cassette from being recorded on by a system
called
"write protect." A tape cassette has two write proteet notehes. one for
eaeh side of the tape. loeated
on the side opposite the tape aeeess opening (see
Figure 2-11). When vou buV pre-reeorded tapes. or when vour own tapes have in-
formation stored on them. vou
ean proteet these tapes from aeeidentallv being
written on bV punehing out the write proteet tabs. To write proteet just one side of
the tape. punch out the tab that is on the left when Vou have the side Vou want to
write proteet faeing upward. When the write proteet tab is in place it provides
resistanee to move a small peg
on the PET tape head area that allows the RECORD
kev to be operational. When the write proteet tab is punehed out the peg is not
moved. so that side eannot be written on.
If vou write protect a tape and then decide vou want to reuse it, just
place a piece of tape over the write protect opening.
