3.8. Serial Channels
3.8.1. Overview
The serial channels of the Assistant and Assistant-S are designed to interface equipment using
RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 communication.
Each serial channel consists of four pins - two pins are for the output and two pins are for the input.

Output pins
Signal Output............. The positive voltage reference to signal ground when serial output is in log.0
(Start bit level)
Signal Ground............ Reference for signal output. The signal ground has galvanic connection to the
Assistant and Assistant-S electrical ground.
Input pins
In A+ .......................... Positive voltage reference to In B- causes log.0 (Start bit level) on serial input
Negative voltage reference to In B- causes log.1 (Stop bit level) on serial input
In B- ........................... Negative voltage reference to In A+ causes log.0 (Start bit level) on serial input
Positive voltage reference to InA+ causes log.1 (Stop bit level) on serial input
Inputs have no galvanic connection to the electrical ground.
The connectors for Assistant and Assistant-S serial channels marked S 5 - S 9 are adopted for use of
4-pin connector.
Important note
The signal names TXD, RXD, GND, RX+, RX-, TX+, TX- are used in the cable description part of Cue
Library Director program. There it is described which pin of controlled device connector is to be
connected to these signals.
