4. Theory of operation
The SYSTEM 9700 consists of up to eight 19” 3U units each containing a number of power
modules able convert the specified output power. One of the units also contains the control
electronics, the local and remote interface as well as external interlocks etc.
In each unit, the input power is rectified through a three-phase rectifier to achieve a high
voltage DC bus. Up to four power modules in parallel convert the high voltage to the desired
output level to achieve a load current. A DCCT coupled with a high precision control loop inside
a temperature-controlled chamber ensures superior output current stability.
The power module is a full bridge phase-modulated converter topology, utilizing zero voltage-
switching, which offers several benefits compared with traditional hard-switching technology.
The output ripple frequency is 170kHz.
