Install the backplane.
Installing the backplane
The procedure to install the backplane is identical for all backplane configurations.
Prerequisites
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the control panel flex cable, do not bend the control panel flex cable after it is inserted
into the connector.
Steps
1. Use the hooks on the system as guides to align the backplane.
2. Lower the backplane until the release tabs snap into place. If applicable, tighten the captive screws on the backplane.

Next steps
1. Connect all the cables to the backplane.
2. Install all the drives.
3. Install the backplane cover.
4. Install the cooling fan assembly.
5. Install the air shroud.
6. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
Removing mid drive tray backplane
The procedure to remove the backplane is identical for 2.5 and 3.5 inch configurations.
Prerequisites
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the drives and backplane, you must remove the drives from the system before
removing the backplane.
CAUTION: You must note the number of each drive and temporarily label them before removal so that you can replace
them in the same locations.
