Correct or acceptable final stuffed diameter
Product diameter undersized
Check and increase Skin Brake tightness. Confirm proper functioning of
the Skin Brake. The Skin Brake housing should be in forward position
while filler is “On” and in the retracted position during the clip cycle.
Inspect for worn Skin Brake, especially with plastic casings.
Check conveyor speed and adjust height. Confirm that the landings of
both are located on the raised front when a product is being filled.
Using a properly sized sizing ring to pre-stretch the casing can help
attain the recommended stuffed diameter. Over-compensating with the
skin brake adjustments can in some cases, cause irregular product
shapes and clip blow-offs.
Product diameter oversized
Check and decrease skin brake tightness, confirm proper functioning of
skin brakes.
Check conveyor height and speed.
Check orifice ratio between voiders. Look for any signs of additional
pressure being placed on horn.
Irregular diameter along chub
length
Check casing for inconsistent flat width.
Reduce delay of skin brake shuttle to horn during stuffing.
Turn on skin brake lag option with operator interface so that skin brake
stays on lip of horn until voiders have fully closed.
Check speed of conveyor and adjust as required.
Check skin brake to horn lip relative position when skin brake shuttle is
in run position.
Always check manufacturer’s
recommended stuff diameter
and proper soaking and
preparation procedures.
