17.5 Recommended Horn Sizes for Various Casings

*The 1-inch horn can be supplied with a retainer ring for the Viskase 400 series casings. This ring is
1.545 inch (39,24 mm) outer diameter (OD). Therefore, shirred casing of other types must clear this
diameter.
**The 2-inch horn can be supplied with a retainer ring which allows use of Viskase Shirmatic 400 series,
Brechteen 400 shirr and Teepak’s T-shirr casings. This ring has a maximum outer diameter of 2.442
inches (62 mm). Therefore, shirred casing of other types must clear this diameter.
Note: The term “shirred casing” refers to a length of casing material compressed in length to match the
usable horn length.
The usable horn length for the casing by horn diameter is:
