If the device or accessory has been in contact with the patient, then cleaning and disinfection is
required after every use. If there has been no patient contact and there is no visible contamination
then daily cleaning and disinfection is appropriate.
The validated cleaning agents for cleaning the monitor, hose, and cuff sleeve are:
Mild near neutral detergent
Ethanol (75%)
Isopropanol (70%)
Cleaning agents should be applied or removed using a clean, soft, non-abrasive cloth or paper
towel each time.
11.2.1 Cleaning the Monitor
1. Power off the monitor, take out the battery and disconnect the hose.
2. Wipe the exterior surface of the equipment and the pouch using a soft, damp cloth until no
visible contaminants remain.
3. Wipe off the cleaning solution with a fresh cloth or towel dampened with tap water after
cleaning until no visible cleaning agent remains.
4. Dry the monitor and the pouch in a ventilated and cool place.
CAUTION
1. Take out batteries and disconnect the hose prior to cleaning.
2. Do not use alcohol to clean the carrying pouch. It can only be wiped using the mild
near neutral detergent.
3. Ensure that no fluid enters the device.
4. Any remainder of cleaning solution should be removed from the monitor after
cleaning.
11.2.2 Cleaning the Cuff Sleeve
1. Carefully remove the bladder and hose from the cuff sleeve.
2. Hand wash the cuff with the cleaning solution; clean the air bladder with a soft cloth
dampened with the cleaning solution until no visible contaminants remain.
3. Rinse the cuff and after cleaning, wipe off the cleaning solution with a fresh cloth or towel
dampened with tap water until no visible cleaning agent remains.
4. Wipe off residual moisture with a dry cloth. If the cuff sleeve is contaminated, replace it.
