4. Installaon
4.1 Safety
WARNING:
Ensure that the installaon technician is familiar with the safety procedures which
relate to the pump oil and the products handled by the pumping system.
WARNING:
We recommend that a hydrocarbon-prepared RV pump is not used for pumping
hazardous substances. PFPE-prepared pumps are suitable for oxygen applicaons:
refer to PFPE-prepared RV pump refer to PFPE-prepared RV pumps on page 56.
Obey the safety instrucons in this Secon and take note of appropriate precauons.
If not, injury to people and damage to equipment can result.
Prevent any part of the human body from coming into contact with the vacuum.
Ensure that the RV pump is suitable for the applicaon. If there is any doubt as to the
suitability of the RV pump for the applicaon, refer our guidelines on vacuum pump and
vacuum system safety or contact us for advice.
A suitably trained and supervised technician must install the RV pump. Obey the safety
instrucons listed below when installing the pump, especially when connecng the
pump into an exisng system. Details of specic safety precauons are given at the
appropriate point in the instrucons.
▪ Wear the appropriate safety-clothing when coming into contact with contaminated
components is ancipated. Dismantle and clean contaminated components inside
a fume cupboard.
▪
Vent and purge the vacuum system before starng installaon work.
▪ Take suitable precauons to avoid the inhalaon of oil mist and excessive skin
contact with pump-oil, as prolonged exposure can be harmful.
▪ Disconnect the other components in the pumping system from the electrical
supply so that they cannot be operated accidentally.
▪
Safely route any electrical supply cables to prevent a trip hazard.
4.2 System design consideraons
Consider the following points when designing the pumping system:
▪
We recommend the use of a foreline vacuum isolaon valve to allow the pump to
warm up before pumping condensable vapours or if a vacuum need to be
maintained when the pump is not running.
▪
Avoid high levels of heat input to the pump from the process gases, otherwise the
pump may overheat and seize, and cause the motor thermal overload device to
open.
