Input
Measured variable
The Gammapilot FMG50 measures the pulse rate (number of pulses per second). This rate is
proportional to the intensity of radiation at the detector. The Gammapilot M calculates the measured
value from this rate:
• Point level (0% = "radiation path free"; 100% = "radiation path covered")
• Level (in % or selectable units)
• Position of interface (in %)
• Density (selectable unit)
• Concentration (selectable unit)
Pulse rate:
Max. 60000 cnt/s
Sensitivity
The sensitivity indicates which pulse rate occurs at a local dose rate of 1 µSv/h. The sensitivity
depends on the following parameters:
• Type of scintillator
• Measuring range
• Isotope used
NaI (TI) scintillator
Sensitivity with lateral irradiation:
•
137
Cs: 675 [(cnt/s)/(µSv/h)] per "inch" measuring range
•
60
Co: 450 [(cnt/s)/(µSv/h)] per "inch" measuring range
• K
2
O: 10 [(cnt/s)/%K
2
O] per "inch" measuring range
PVT scintillator
Sensitivity with lateral irradiation
•
137
Cs: 10 [(cnt/s)/(µSv/h)] per "mm" measuring range
•
60
Co: 5 [(cnt/s)/(µSv/h)] per "mm" measuring range
Typical pulse rates
A radiometric measuring point should be designed in a way such that the following pulse rates,
approximately, are obtained:
Level measurement (with empty vessel)
• 2500 cnt/s for
137
Cs
• 5000 cnt/s for
60
Co
Point level detection (with free radiation path)
• 500 cnt/s for
137
Cs
• 1000 cnt/s for
60
Co
