50
grid uses the exhaust fan to create suction from below the material and hold the
piece of material in place. The material can also be held with a variety of
materials such as masking tape, PlayDoh, etc. Creating jigs is also an excellent
method of holding materials that are high volume, or high value. Engraving or
cutting a jig to match an unusual shape is very easy to do.
Focus on your material
In order to engrave or cut a crisp clean image, your material must be the correct
distance from the bottom of the focus lens. Setting the distance from the bottom
of the focus lens to the top of your material is the process of focusing, and is
accomplished by placing your material on the table and moving the table up or
down. Once your material is just touching the focus gauge, you are in correct
focus.
Focus
The photo below shows the focus gauge that is built in to the X-beam of your
laser system. You can move the focus gauge by hand from the far left to the far
right side of the X-beam. This allows you to focus anywhere along the X-axis of
the table. The focus spring will swing freely when released from its holder.
To focus, release the focus spring from its holder on the X-beam. Press the Focus
button so activate the Up and Down Arrow Keys on the control panel. Pressing
the Up or Down Arrow Keys moves the table. Your machine is in correct focus
once the end of the spring just touches your material. Swing the spring back into
Focus Gauge
/ spring
assembly.
