The photos below show a CorelDraw clipart image engraved at 250 DPI (top) and
at 500 DPI (bottom). This clipart image is full of different shades of gray and
you can see that the dot spacing is spread out more on the 250 DPI than it is on
the 500 DPI. Just changing the resolution to 500 DPI produces so much dot
overlap that the fill patterns tend to blend together. It’s a matter of personal
preference as to which resolution looks better, but these photos show the dramatic
difference resolution can make, especially when engraving with grayscale images.
