Chapter 1: Introduction to the FaroArm
The probe digitizes a point when it makes contact with an object. It may
digitize multiple points when bounced off an object. Watch the LED
light on the FaroArm handle and listen to the sounds of the computer to
ensure that only one point was digitized. The LED light turns off and
the Computer sounds when a point is digitized.

Custom Probe Calibration
Any probe with a sphere or a point can be calibrated. See “Calibrate
Probe” on page 33.
Certification
The measuring software has commands that allow you to perform tests
that certify the accuracy and repeatability of your FaroArm. The
certification commands allow you to test the FaroArm using a single
hole, a ball bar, or a step gauge. The single hole certification is a quick
and easy test that you should run often to certify your FaroArm.
Use a calibrated Ball Probe. See “Installing Probes” on
page 15 and “Calibrate Probe” on page 33.
Complete a Single Point certification test.
Make sure that you move the joints of the FaroArm while
measuring the points.
Do not digitize a point if any of the encoders reach their
end stop. See “Error and Status Indicators” on page 10.
Avoid a position where a degree of freedom is lost in the
FaroArm. See “Loss of a Degree of Freedom” on
page 20.
If the test fails, print the results and repeat the certification two
more times. Print all of the results.
