Configuring password protectio n in BIOS Setup Utility
Before using the various options for password protection in the BIOS Setup
Utility, please procee d as follows to increase data security:
Make a note of the passwords a n d keep them in a safe place. If you forg et your
supervisor HDD password you will not be able to access your notebo ok. Passwords
are not covered by your warranty and a charge will be made for assistance.
Password protection
You r password can be up to
eight characters long and can con tain lette rs and
numbers. No distinction
is made between uppercase a nd lowercase.
Protecting BIOS Setup Utility (supervisor HDD password
and user HDD password)
If you have opened these operating instructions on the screen, we recommend
that you print them out. You cannot call up the instructions on the screen
while you are setting up the password.
BIOSSetupUtility
The superviso r HDD password and the user HDD password both prevent unauthorized use of the
BIOS Setup Utility. The supervisor H DD password allows you to access all of the functions of the BIOS
Setup Utility, while the user HD D password will only give you access to some of the functions. You
can only set a user HDD password when a supervisor HDD password has already been assigned.

Assigning the supervisor and user HDD passwords
► Start the BI
OS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.
► Select the Set Supervisor Password field and press the Enter key.

new Password: you are asked to e nter a p assword.
► Enter the passw ord and press the Enter key.
Confirm ne
w Password requires y ou to con firm the passw ord.
► Enter the password again and press the Enter key.
Changes
have been saved is displayed as a confirmation that the new password has been saved.
► To set the user HDD password, se lect Set User P assword and proceed exactly
as when configuring the supervisor HDD password.
If you d
o not want to change any other settings, you ca n exit BIOS Setup Utility.
► In the Exit menu, select the option Save Changes & Exit.

The notebook is t hen rebooted and the new password comes into effect. It will now be necessary
to first enter yo ur supervisor or user HDD password in order to op en the BIOS Setup Utility.
Please note that the user HDD password only p rovides access to a few of the BIO S settings.
