Gap to floor board when clutch is released.
Inspect the pedal with the clutch engaged.
1. Let the engine idle and engage the parking
brake.
2. Step down on the clutch pedal and shift the gear
lever to the highest gear in forward.
3. Release the clutch pedal slowly and measure
the gap between the pedal and the floor board
just before the clutch engages.
CAUTION
Be careful not to set the vehicle in motion sud-
denly. Also watch out for surrounding condi-
tions.
Note: The clutch is self-adjusting. The clutch
engagement position cannot be adjusted.
CLUTCH OPERATION
Check if there is abnormal sound when the clutch
pedal is stepped on, then check if the pedal is
abnormally heavy. Next, step on the pedal and see
if the gear level can be shifted easily. Slowly release
the pedal and check for sliding and for smooth
clutch engagement.
Note: The clutch is self-adjusting. If the clutch disc
is worn beyond the prescribed limit; the
clutch pedal will be heavy when you first step
on it, then return to original heaviness if then
you step down on the pedal to a certain
degree. This lets you know it is time to
replace the clutch.
At such times, have the vehicle inspected.
25. FRONT WHEEL HUB BEARING
With the front axle jacked up, move the tire hold-
ing its top and bottom to check for bearing loose-
ness.
Replace wheel hub bearing hub seals.
Gap to floor board 17 mm or more
Inspection intervals
Every 15,000 km (9,000 miles)
