5.3.3 Palisade Fencing
When the Interceptor Cable is to be attached to palisade fencing, a specially designed
plastic strip (GDPS-1) should be used as shown to ensure a consistently good contact
between the arris-rail and the sensor. This plastic strip should then be secured to the
arris rail using GQTY-2 tie-wraps which are longer than the standard GQTY-1 ties used
on chain-link or weld-mesh fencing.
Before deploying Alpha sensor on palisade fencing, care should be taken to remove
any sharp points along the arris rail which might puncture the sleeving of the cable.
These points are sometimes present as a result of dripping when the rail was
galvanised during manufacture. By passing a finger gently along the rail any such
points may be identified and filed down before the sensor is attached.

The maximum recommended spacing of the GQTY-2 ties used to attach the plastic
strip to the arris rail is 500mm, or a minimum of six ties per fence panel. Note how the
ties are positioned behind the upright palings so that there is no visible indication of the
fence being protected from outside the perimeter.
