Section 4 - Operating the Rockpicker
9. Lower the apron so that it is just at the
surface of the dirt to pick up rocks but
does not dig into the dirt.
- The apron height is adjusted through
the bucket dump hydraulic cylinders.
- To lower the apron, extend the
bucket dump cylinders.
- Note: Continuing to extend the
bucket dump cylinders
will raise the bucket into
dumping position.
- To raise the apron, retract the
bucket dump cylinders.
- Note: For larger rocks, it may
be necessary to raise
the apron.
10. Operate the rockpicker at a field
speed of 3 - 4 mph (5 -6 km/h).
Stay back from the rockpicker
while in operation.
Rotating bats may throw rocks
causing injury or death.
Keep clear of the machine as
rocks may bounce off the sides in
an unpredictable manner.
- Engage the hydraulic motor to rotate
the rock reel.
- When picking large rocks, the field
speed should be decreased to reduce
possible damage from large impacts.
11. Adjust the rock reel speed so that
rocks are pushed into the rock bucket
but are not thrown out of the bucket or
bounce from the bucket sides.
