Section 5 - Maintaining the Rockpicker
Changing the Reel Springs
Shut down the tractor and remove
the key before repairing,
servicing, lubricating or cleaning
the machine.
Relieve all hydraulic pressure in
the hoses. Disconnect the
hydraulic hoses from the tractor
before going near the machine.
Removing the Springs
- Before proceeding, ensure there is no
spring pressure on any of the bats.
Note: As the spring pressure is released,
the bat may sag slightly. Be in a
position so that this movement will
not cause personal harm.
1. Remove the leading edge impact bolt (6).
Note: Some machines will not have
the edge impact bolt.
2. Remove the bolt (5) that prevents the
tension bolt (3) from moving up.
3. Loosen the bolt (2) holding the spring
cover plates.
- Do not remove the bolt at this time.
- Loosen the bolt enough to allow
movement of the springs between the
plates.
4. Loosen the jamnut (4) on the spring
tension bolt.
5. Loosen the spring tension bolt (3) to
remove tension from the spring.
- Completely loosen the bolt to remove
all pressure from the spring.
6. Remove the spring cover plate bolt (2).
7. Remove the cover plates (1) and springs.
