Parity Tests
Parity checking is enabled during the memory test phase. Error messages are one of these two
types:
• pairi ty bit error at FFFF1234 - means a failure was detected at the address given by
the parity checking circuits; a parity error was signaled when none should have been .
• data parity error at FFFF4321 - a RAM failure was detected at the address given and
the parity checking circuits signaled the error.
Addresses in
the parity error messages is the address of the lowest of four consecutive addresses.
The error could have occurred in any or all of those four addresses. Parity errors will be displayed
during the TESTING MEMORY phase of the self-test and testing will continue.
End of Memory Test
At the end of the memory test, message like this example:
Memory Failed at FFFFABCD
will be displayed if either of the above conditions have occurred. If the error was a DATA
failure,
the bit pattern written and pattern read will also be displayed. If only parity errors
were detected, then only this message will be displayed:
Memory Failed
Should either or both types of memory failures occur, the Boot ROM instructions will cause
the CPU to wait one minute before finishing the self-tests and going on to boot an operating
system.
