d. The magnitude and phase of the reflection coefficient, Γ, can be
determined in the following two ways.
i. Reading the Smith chart as follows:
• ρ = |Γ| = the distance from the measurement point to the
center point on the chart. See Figure 3-34, “Determining
the Magnitude and Phase of the Reflection Coefficient.”
• ∠ Γ = θ = the angle between the horizontal axis of the Smith
chart and a line from the center point to the measurement
point. See Figure 3-34.
