4 Using the Compass
4.1 General Description
The StellarTrek is equipped with a compass tool, which works in a very similar way to any regular
compass. This tool can be very useful if you wish to identify by yourself the orientation of your
surroundings.
To access the compass:
1. Press and hold the Up arrow to enter Detection mode.
2. Use the Left and Right arrows to navigate through the menu and choose the item
Compass by pressing the Confirm button.
Once the compass is activated, you can begin to use it. For the compass to work properly, the
StellarTrek must always be held flat, horizontally, with the buttons facing upwards. The
StellarTrek will announce your orientation every 15 seconds (i.e. “Heading Southwest”,
“Heading East”, etc.).
You can also ask your orientation while in the compass by pressing the confirm or where am I
buttons.
4.2 Calibrating the Compass
Upon using the compass for the first time, it is recommended to calibrate it for more optimal
results. At any given time, you may also calibrate the compass for a more accurate navigation.
The StellarTrek might also warn you when the compass needs calibration.
For the calibration to work properly, the StellarTrek must always be held flat, horizontally, with the
buttons facing upwards.
To calibrate the compass:
1. Press and hold the Down arrow to access the Settings menu.
2. In the Settings menu, use the Left and Right arrows to access the item System and press
Confirm.
3. Use the Left and Right arrows to access the item Compass Calibration and press
Confirm.
4. The StellarTrek will announce instructions on how to place the device to optimize the
calibration. Follow the instructions until the device announces: “Calibration was
completed successfully”. If an instruction was not followed properly, you will be prompted
to press the Voice button to listen to it again.
