8 Updating the StellarTrek Software
HumanWare may from time to time offer new versions of the StellarTrek software. There are 2
ways to verify if a new update is available on your StellarTrek: manually, or with an automatic
update.
To update your StellarTrek, you must first have an active connection to the Internet using the built-
in Wi-Fi (see section 2.4 for more information on the Wi-Fi configuration menu). Note that you must
connect the StellarTrek to a power outlet with the AC power adapter or the battery of your device
must be at least 20% charged for the update to be performed.
8.1 Verify Manually for a StellarTrek Software Update
To check for an update manually:
1. Press and hold the Down arrow to access the Settings.
2. Use the Left and Right arrows through the Settings menu to access the item System and
press Confirm.
3. Use the Left and Right arrows through the System menu to access the item Software
update and press Confirm.
4. The device will look for updates. If a new software version is available, you will be prompted
“An update is available, install now? Press confirm to install, press Back to Remind
you later”.
5. Press Confirm if you wish to install the update now.
6. The updating process will begin immediately, and the device will announce the progression
in percentage throughout. Once the update is completed, the device announces “Update
done” and the StellarTrek will reboot.
8.2 Automatic Notifications of a New Update
When connected to the Internet, the StellarTrek will look once a week if a new update is available
for download. When an update is available, the StellarTrek will prompt you to download it.
When prompted with a new update, press Confirm to install it, or Back to remind you later. If you
press Confirm, the updating process will start immediately.
8.3 Consult the Update Changes
If you wish to know the latest changes and features associated with an upcoming software update,
you can do so by consulting the release notes. When prompted with a new update, simply press
the Down arrow.
The device will announce the title of the update and a brief summary of the new features. Use the
Left and Right arrows if you wish to navigate through the changes.
