Start a cut from the edge of the workpiece
• If you fire the torch unnecessarily, you shorten the life
of the nozzle and electrode.
• Pulling, or dragging, the torch along the cut is easier
than pushing it.
• For straight-line cuts, use a straight edge as a guide.
To cut circles, use a template or a radius cutter
attachment (a circle cutting guide). See the Parts
section for part numbers for the Hypertherm plasma
cutting guides for cutting circles and making bevel
cuts.
• Hold the torch nozzle perpendicular to the workpiece
so that the nozzle is at a 90°angle to the cutting
surface and watch the arc as it cuts along the line.
1. With the work clamp attached to the workpiece, hold
the torch nozzle perpendicular (90°) to the edge of the
workpiece. If you are using the shielded consumables,
no standoff is needed. With unshielded consumables,
maintain an approximate 2 mm (0.08-inch) standoff.
