density (HD) x4 connectors that allow the physical links to be used in various narrow and wide-port
congurations. SAS tape attachment is only supported in a single adapter conguration and cannot be
mixed with SAS disk on the same adapter. The adapter does not have write cache. Figure 48 on page 147
and Figure 49 on page 148 show the PCIe3 4 x8 SAS port adapter.
A maximum of four DVD or tape drives can be attached per adapter by using four AE1 cables (FC ECBY). A
maximum of eight DVD or tape drives can be attached by using four YE1 cables (ECBZ).
Externally attached devices are designed to run at a maximum data rate of 6 Gbps for SAS tape devices.

Figure 48 on page 147 and Figure 49 on page 148 show the adapters. The connector plug (A) is installed
in an empty port and prevents damage to that port whenever a cable for the adjacent port connectors is
plugged-in or removed.
