Performthesestepsinadditiontothosein6.4LiftingandTransferring
thePatient,page31whentransferringtoorfromacommode.
Theslingswithcommodeopeningsaredesignedtobeused
witheitheracommodechairorstandardcommode.
1.Beforetransferringthepatient,thepatientliftshouldbe
guidedtothebathroomfacilitiestocheckthatitcanbeeasily
maneuveredtowardsthecommode.
TheInvacarepatientliftisNOTintendedasatransport
device.IfthebathroomfacilitiesareNOTnearthebed
orifthepatientliftcannotbeeasilymaneuveredtowards
thecommode,thenthepatientMUSTbetransferredto
awheelchairandtransportedtothebathroomfacilities
beforeusingthepatientliftagaintopositionthepatient
onastandardcommode.

3.Elevatethepatienthighenoughtoclearthecommodechairarms
andhavetheirweightsupportedbythepatientlift.Referto5.3

4.Bothassistantsshouldhelpguidethepatientontothecommode.
5.Lowerthepatientontothecommode,leavingtheslingattached
tothehangerbarhooks.
Invacarerecommendsthattheslingremainconnectedto
thehangerbarhooksduringthepatient’suseofeither
thecommodechairorstandardcommode.
6.Whencomplete,recheckforcorrectslingattachment.
7.Raisethepatientoffofthecommode.
8.Whenthepatientisclearofthecommodesurface,usethe
steeringhandlestomovetheliftawayfromthecommode.

BedTransfer
Usethefollowingguidelineswhentransferringtoorfromabed:
•Positionthepatientasfaroverthebedaspossible.
•Ifpatientisbeingtransferredfromasurfacethatislowerthan
thebed,presstheuparrowbuttontoraisethepatientabove
thesurfaceofthebed.Thepatientshouldbeelevatedjusthigh
enoughtoclearthebedwiththeirweightfullysupportedby
thelift.
•Whenthepatientisclearofthebedsurface,swingtheirfeet
offthebed(Detail“B”).
•Aftertransfer,unhooktheslingfromallattachmentpointson
theliftandremovetheslingfromaroundthepatient.
