Marcelling
NOTE: Arrow indicates direction of travel.
Marcelling, like washboarding, is a cyclical pattern of
varying cutting heights, resulting in a wave-like cut
appearance. In most cases, the wave tip-to-tip distance is
2 in. (5 cm) or less.
Probable Cause Remedy
Mowing (ground) speed is too fast. Reduce mowing (ground) speed.
HOC (height-of-cut) setting is too low for turf conditions. Check/adjust HOC to turf conditions. (Refer to “Safety, Operation,
and Maintenance Manual.”)
Cutting reel diameter is worn. Check cutting reel diameter and replace if worn below minimum
diameter. (Refer to “Safety, Operation, and Maintenance
Manual.”)
Insufficient engine speed. Check/adjust engine speed. (Refer to “Safety, Operation, and
Maintenance Manual.”)
Hydraulic system and/or cutting reel motor performance is
reduced.
Check hydraulic system performance (pump output, motor
operation, valve operation, relief valve settings, etc.) and
repair/replace as necessary. (See “Cutting Unit/Charge Pump
Test” on page 6-31.)
