BELT TENSIONS
Checking Belt tensions
Apply moderate thumb pressure (approxi-
mately 10kg(22 Ibs, 98N) midway
between pulleys and check the deflection.
WARNING!
e Before checking belt tension,
remove the key from the igni-
tion switch for safety.
e Keep hair, loose clothing, neck
ties, necklaces and similar arti-
cles away from drive belts,
especially when the engine is
running. ALWAYS REMOVE
ALL TOOLS from the engine
compartment before attempting
to start the engine. Any of the
above items could become
entangled in the belts and
cause severe personal injury or
damage to the vehicle, or both.
NOTE
If the drive belt becomes worn, cracked,
or frayed it should be replaced.

Loosen the alternator mounting bolt
and lock bolt.
Turn the adjusting bolt until the correct
tension is obtained.
Tighten the bolts and recheck the
deflection.

Adjustment
1. Loosen the idler pulley locknut.
2. Turn the idler pulley adjusting bolt until
the correct tension is obtained.
3. Tighten the locknut and recheck the
deflection
