EMERGENCY
STARTING
Discharged
battery
Make
connections
in
number
order
(Disconnect
in
reverse
order
after
use)

JUMP-STARTING
PROCEDURE

Make
sure
the
booster
battery
is
12-
volt
and
that
it's
negative
terminal
is
grounded
If
the
boost
battery
is
in
another
vehi-
cle,
do
not
allow
the
vehicles
to
touch.
Turn
off
all
unnecessary
electrical
loads.
Connect
the
jumper
cables
in
the
exact
sequence
in
the
illustration.
First
connect
one
end
of
a
jumper
cable
to
the
positive
terminal
of
the
discharged
battery
and
the
other
end
to
the
posi-
tive
terminal
on
the
booster
battery.
Next
connect
one
end
of
the
other
jumper
cable
to
the
negative
5-4
503
terminal
of
the
booster
battery
and
the
other
end
to
a
solid,
stationary,
Metallic
point
away
from
the
battery.
NOT
TO
THE
BATTERY
NEGATIVE
(-)
TERMINAL,
being
careful
that
the
clamps
of
one
cable
do
not
touch
or
contact
any
metal
on
either
vehicle.
Do
not
lean
over
the
battery
when
making
connections.
.
Start
the
engine
of
the
vehicle
with
the
booster
battery,
and
let
it
run
a
few
“minutes.
Then
start
the
engine
of
the
vehicle
with
the
discharged
battery.
.
Carefully
disconnect
the
cables
in
the
exact
reverse
order
described
in
step
4.
Push
Starting
A
vehicle
should
not
be
push
started
because
it
might
damage
the
emission
control
system.
Follow
the
directions
on
the
previous
page
for
jump
starting.
CAUTION
Never
tow
a
vehicle
to
start
it
because
the
sudden
surge
forward
when
the
engine
starts
could
cause
a
collision
with
the
tow
vehicle.
