password.

Harddiskpasswords
Twotypesofharddiskpasswordshelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddisk:
Userharddiskpassword
Masterharddiskpassword,whichrequiresauserharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermustenter
theuserharddiskpasswordinordertogainaccesstolesandapplicationsontheharddisk.
Themasterpasswordcanbesetandusedonlybyasystemadministrator.Likeamasterkey,itenablesthe
administratortogetaccesstoanyharddriveinasystem.Theadministratorsetsthemasterpassword;no
oneelseknowsit.Thentheadministratorsetsauserpasswordforeachcomputerinthenetwork,andtells
eachuserthepasswordforhisorhercomputer.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordasdesired,
buttheadministratorcanstillgetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Note:Whenamasterharddiskpasswordisset,onlytheadministratorcanremovetheuserharddisk
password.
Settingaharddiskpassword
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.TheThinkPadSetupopens.
5.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.SelectPassword.
7.SelectHardDiskxPassword,wherexisthenumberoftheharddiskdriveforwhichyouwantto
setapassword.
