Troubleshootingprocedure
Usethefollowinginformationasageneralprocedurefordiagnosingandtroubleshootingproblemsyou
experiencewithyourserver:
1.Verifythatthepowercordsandthecablesforallattacheddevicesareconnectedcorrectlyandsecurely.
2.Verifythattheserverandallattacheddevicesthatrequireacpowerareconnectedtoproperlygrounded,
functioningelectricaloutlets.
3.VerifythatallinstalledhardwareandattacheddevicesareenabledintheBIOSsettingsofyourserver.

4.ViewthestatusanddiagnosticLEDstoidentifythesystemanddevicestatusanddiagnoseproblems.

5.Iftheserverisnotworkingafteryouhaveaddednewsoftware,installedanewoptionaldevice,or
replacedapieceofhardware,removeorreinstallthesoftware,device,orhardwaretoseeiftheproblem
couldbesolved.
6.Viewthesystemeventlogtodiagnoseproblems.See“Viewingthesystemeventlog”onpage159.
7.TurnontheserverandpressEscassoonasyouseethelogoscreentoviewanydiagnosticmessages.
8.Referto“Basictroubleshootingtables”onpage160andfollowtheinstructionsforthetypeofproblem
youareexperiencing.Ifthebasictroubleshootinginformationdoesnothelpyouresolveaproblem,
continuewiththenextstep.
9.Tryusingapreviousservercongurationtoseeifarecentchangetohardwareorsoftwaresettingshas
causedaproblem.Beforerestoringyourpreviousconguration,captureyourcurrentcongurationin
casetheoldercongurationsettingsdonotsolvetheproblemorhaveadverseeffect.
10.Useanantivirusprogramtoseeifyourserverhasbeeninfectedbyavirus.Iftheprogramdetectsa
virus,removethevirus.
11.Ifnoneoftheseactionssolvetheproblem,seektechnicalassistance.SeeChapter8“Getting
information,help,andservice”onpage165.
ViewingthestatusanddiagnosticLEDs
YourserverhasstatusanddiagnosticLEDsonthefrontpanel,therearpanel,thepanelofthediagnostic
module(variesbymodel),thesystemboard,thehot-swapharddiskdrives,andtheopticaldrive(if
supported).ThevariousLEDshelpyoueasilyidentifythesystemanddevicestatusanddiagnoseproblems.
