UpdatingorrecoveringtheBIOS

Systemprogramsarethebasiclayerofsoftwarebuiltintoyourserver.SystemprogramsincludethePOST,
theUEFIBIOS,andtheSetupUtilityprogram.ThePOSTisasetoftestsandproceduresthatareperformed
eachtimeyouturnonyourserver.TheUEFIBIOSisalayerofsoftwarethattranslatesinstructionsfrom
otherlayersofsoftwareintoelectricalsignalsthattheserverhardwarecanexecute.Youcanusethe
SetupUtilityprogramtovieworchangetheconfigurationsettingsofyourserver.See“UsingtheSetup

LenovomightmakechangesandenhancementstotheBIOSandTMMfirmware.Whenupdatesarereleased,

•UpdatetheBIOSonyourserveronlyifthenewerBIOSversionspecificallysolvesaproblemyouhave.

•DowngradingtheBIOStoanearlierversionisnotrecommendedandmightnotbesupported.Anearlier
BIOSversionmightnotcontainthesupportforthelatestsystemconfigurations.
•IfthepowertoyourserverisinterruptedwhilethePOSTandBIOSarebeingupdated,yourservermight
notrestartproperly.EnsurethatyouperformtheBIOSupdateprocedureinanenvironmentwitha
steadypowersupply.Besides,ensurethatyourservercanrestartsuccessfullywithoutencountering
hardwareproblems.
•IfyouhaveupdatedtheBIOSfirmware,alltheBIOSsettingsbecomethedefaultsettingsoftheupdated
BIOSversion.YouneedtocheckandreconfiguretheBIOSsettingsforyourspecificneeds.
