WIFI COMMUNICATION
4.6 INCOMPATIBLE WIFI NETWORKS
The ZL6 is not compatible with the following types of Wi-Fi networks. Consult an IT specialist
for assistance if the network intended to be used with the ZL6 is one of the following
incompatible networks.
The ZL6 is not compatible with Wi-Fi networks that employ captive portal technology.
Captive portals are commonly used with open Wi-Fi networks to present a network login
page or to require a compliance agreement with an acceptable use policy before allowing
network access. The ZL6 is unable to interact with these requirements. It is not possible for
ZENTRA Utility mobile to identify networks using a captive portal. During the configuration
process, ZENTRA Utility Mobile will likely alert that the ZL6 does not have internet access
even if it successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Suggested work around for networks using a captive portal: provide the network
administrator with the MAC address for the ZL6 so it can be added to the network whitelist.
The ZL6 is not compatible with enterprise Wi-Fi networks that require security certificates
to be loaded onto the clients using the network. These networks typically use certificates
instead of usernames and passwords to enable network access. Networks secured with
the EAP-TLS method is an example of an incompatible network. ZENTRA Utility Mobile
and the ZL6 do not currently support transferring security certificates to the Wi-Fi module
embedded in the ZL6.
Suggested work around for networks using security certificates: work with your IT
professional to deploy a dedicated Wi-Fi network for the ZL6 hardware that uses supported
network security.
The ZL6 is not compatible with networks that require the hardware to use statically assigned
IP address configuration. It is not currently possible to configure the ZL6 to use a static IP
address with ZENTRA Utility Mobile. The ZL6 only interacts with ZENTRA Cloud over the
internet so a dynamically allocated IP address is sufficient.
Suggested work around for networks requiring static IP address: provide the network
administrator with the MAC address for the ZL6 so it can be given a fixed IP address via
DHCP.
