This document provides operating instructions for the Miele Commercial Dishwasher PFD 408, covering its functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description
The Miele PFD 408 is a commercial dishwasher designed for efficient and powerful cleaning in various commercial environments, including senior living facilities, hospitals (NSF 3 classified models), restaurants, pubs, hotels, and guesthouses. It offers short program cycle times and robust cleaning performance. The machine is intended for stationary, indoor use only and is specifically designed for cleaning wash items such as glasses, cutlery, and dishes. It is not intended for cleaning medical devices.
The dishwasher features multiple dispensing systems for process chemicals, including a door dispenser for powder cleaning agents and tabs, and external dispenser modules (DOS modules) for liquid cleaning agents and rinse aid. The water softener automatically reactivates at regular intervals using special reactivation salt to ensure optimal cleaning results, especially in areas with hard tap water.
Key operational features include:
- Program Selection: A variety of programs are available, such as Normal, Normal Plus, Intensive, Rapid, Cold, and Drain, to suit different types of wash items and soiling levels.
- Timer Function: Programs can be started using a timer, allowing for delayed starts or setting a specific finish time, which can be beneficial for optimizing energy consumption during off-peak hours.
- Drying Functions: Depending on the model, the dishwasher may include "Dry+" active drying, which uses a fan to convey filtered fresh air into the wash cabinet, accelerating and improving the drying process. The "AutoOpen" function slightly opens the door at the end of a program to allow residual moisture to escape, further aiding drying. "AutoClose" ensures the door is drawn into its final closed position and mechanically locked after closing.
- Water Hardness Adjustment: The water softener can be adjusted to match the local water hardness level, ranging from 0 to 70 gpg (0–70°dH), to prevent calcium deposits.
- Dispensing Concentration: The concentration of liquid process chemicals can be adjusted for all dispensing systems and programs.
- A0 Value Display: For models where it is activated, the dishwasher can display an A0 value at the end of a program, indicating the destruction of microorganisms with moist heat, though it is not a medical device and the value is for indication only.
- User Profiles: The system supports "Daily operators" and "Experienced operators," with the latter having access to PIN code-protected settings for modifying program parameters and blocking access to certain functions.
- Networking/WiFi: The dishwasher is equipped with an integrated WiFi module, allowing connection to a local network for digital solutions from Miele, including remote updates.

- Welcome Tone: A brief melody plays when the machine is switched on and off, which can be enabled or disabled.
Maintenance Features
- Regular Maintenance: Miele recommends annual maintenance by Miele Customer Service to prolong the dishwasher's service life. This includes checking the door mechanism, seals, connections, dispensing systems, spray arms, filter combination, drain pump, non-return valve, and baskets.
- Filter Cleaning: The filter combination in the wash cabinet (coarse, flat, and micro-fine filters) must be checked and cleaned regularly to prevent blockages and ensure proper operation. A "Filter program lock" can be activated to prevent programs from starting if the micro-fine filter is incorrectly inserted or missing.
- Spray Arm Cleaning: The three spray arms should be checked and cleaned regularly to remove food particles that may clog the jets and bearings.
- Air Filter Replacement: For models with Dry+ drying, the air filter needs to be replaced at regular intervals, with a message appearing on the display when a change is due. The filter interval can be reset after replacement.
- Water Inlet Filter Cleaning: A filter in the water intake valve protects against soiling and needs to be cleaned if water flow is insufficient.
- Drain Pump and Non-Return Valve Cleaning: If water is not pumped away at the end of a program, the drain pump or non-return valve may be blocked and needs to be cleaned.
- Wipe Lock: The display can be locked during cleaning to prevent accidental operation.
- Cleaning the Machine: Instructions are provided for cleaning the control panel, machine front (stainless steel), wash cabinet, and door/door seal using suitable cleaning agents.
- Log Book: The dishwasher logs consumption data for water and process chemicals, as well as operating hours and program sequences, which can be used by Miele Customer Service for service interval recommendations.
