6. RS-232C / RS-LINK FUNCTION
6.2 RS-Link Function
A maximum of 10 counters (6 counters when EF counters are included) are linked with two
adjacent counters connected with a single cable. The entire counters can be controlled by
controlling the first counter with a personal computer via the RS-232C interface.
6.2.1 Connecting method
Connect RS Link connectors IN and OUT of two adjacent counters with the RS LINK
connecting cable as shown in the figure blow.

Note 1: Do not connect anything to Link connector IN on the first counter and to Link
connector OUT on the last counter.
Note 2: The channel numbers of gages are automatically set in the order of 01, 02, 03, - -
- from the first counter by initialization when the power is turned on.
Note 3: The cable length in the whole system is up to 10m.
Note 4: If a system consists of 6 counters or more and if the total cable length is 10m or
more, consult Mitutoyo separately.
6.2.2 RS-Link Function
For detailed information, refer to “2.1 Main Unit Specifications”.
6.2.3 Precautions at startup
Power on: Turn on the power to all counters at the same time or sequentially turn on the
power from the first
counter.
Initialization: After startup the counter flashes “- - - - -“. After completing initialization
the counter
displays “- - - - -“l, entering the count standby mode. An error display can be cleared
with the CLR key,
external HOLD or RS command (see “5. ERROR DISPLAY").
The parameters (Nos. 23 to 28) related to RS-232C can be changed only for the
first counter. If any
parameter is changed, turn on the power to all connected counters again.
Set the startup mode (parameter No.14) to 0 (factory-set).
