Whenanexistingfurnaceisremovedfromaventsystem
servingotherappliances,theexistingventsystemmay
notbesizedproperlytoventtheremainingappliances
(Forexample:waterheater).Animproperlysizedventing
systemcanresultintheformationofcondensate,leakage,
orspillage.Theexistingventsystemshouldbechecked
tomakesureitisin compliance with NFGC and must
bebroughtintocompliancebeforeinstallingthefurnace.
NOTE: Ifreplacinganexistingfurnace,itispossibleyouwill
encounteranexistingplasticventingsystemthatissubject
toaConsumerProductSafetyCommissionrecall.The
pipesinvolvedintherecallareHighTemperaturePlastic
Vent(HTPV).Ifyourventingsystemcontainsthese
pipesDONOTreusethisventingsystem!Thisrecall
doesnotapplytootherplasticventpipes,suchaswhite

CAUTION:
Whentheventpipeisexposedtotemperatures
below freezing (i.e., when it passes through
unheated spaces, chimneys, etc.) the pipe
mustbeinsulatedwith1/2inchthicksponge
rubberinsulation,Armaex-typeinsulationor
equivalent.Insulatingpipeisimportanttoavoid
condensate icing.
• Table3liststhemaximumlengthofuepipethatcan
travelthroughanunconditionedspaceoranexterior
space. The total vent length must not exceed the
lengthsnotedintheTable.ForCanadianinstallations,
pleaserefertotheCanadianInstallationCode(CAN/
CGA-B149.1or2)and/orlocalcodes.
• Forextremelycoldclimatesorforconditionsofshort
furnace cycles (i.e. set back thermostat conditions)
thelast18inchesofventpipecanbereduced.Itis
acceptabletoreducefrom3”to2-1/2”or,3”to2”ifthe
totalventlengthisatleast15feetinlength,andthe
ventlengthiswithintheparametersspeciedinTable
2 (page 8).The restriction should be counted as 3
equivalentfeet.Smallerventpipesarelesssusceptible
tofreezing,butmustnotbeexcessivelyrestrictive..
• To prevent debris or creatures from entering the
combustionsystem,aprotectivescreenmaybeinstalled
overthecombustionairintakeopening.Thescreens
holesizemustbelargeenoughtopreventairrestriction.
