After the gas piping to the furnace is complete, all
connectionsmustbetestedforgasleaks.Thisincludes
pipe connections at the main gas valve, emergency
shutoffvalveandexiblegasconnectors(ifapplicable).
The soap and water solution can be applied on each
jointorunionusingasmallpaintbrush.Ifanybubblingis
observed,theconnectionisnotsealedadequatelyand
must be retightened. Repeat the tightening and soap
checkprocessuntilbubblingceases.
IMPORTANTNOTE:Whenpressuretestinggassupply
linesatpressuresgreaterthan1/2psig(14inchW.C.),
thegassupplypipingsystemmustbedisconnected
fromthefurnacetopreventdamagetothegascontrol
valve.Ifthetestpressureislessthanorequalto1/2
psig(14inchW.C.),closethemanualshut-offvalve.
HighAltitudeApplication
High altitude conversion with this furnace depends on
theinstallationaltitudeandtheheatingvalueofthegas.
Installationofthisfurnaceataltitudesabove2,000feet
shallbeinaccordancewithlocalcodes,orintheabsence
oflocalcodes,theNationalFuelGasCode,ANSIZ223/
NFPA54orNationalStandardofCanada,NaturalGas&
PropaneInstallationCodeCGAB149.1.Pleaseconsult
yourlocalcodeauthority.
The installer must indicate the furnace has been
convertedtohighaltitude.Thismaybeaccomplished
bymarkingtheratingplatewithapermanentmarker.
WARNING:
Thereductionofinputratingnecessaryforhigh
altitudeinstallationmayonlybeaccomplished
withfactorysuppliedorices.Donotattemptto
drilloutoricesintheeld.Improperlydrilled
orices may cause re, explosion, carbon
monoxidepoisoning,personalinjuryordeath.
Thefurnacesareshippedfromthefactorywithorices
andgasregulatorsettingsfornaturalgasoperationatsea
levelaltitudes.At2000feet,theNFGCrequiresthatthis
appliancebederated4%foreach1000feetofaltitude.
Forexample,theinputneedstobereduced8%at2,000
feet,12%at3,000feet,etc.Thisderationisinreference
totheinputrateandgasheatingvalueatsealevel.
Toderatethefurnacerequiresknowingtheheatingvalueof
thegasattheinstallationsite.Heatingvaluesatparticular
jobsitesvaryfortworeasons:
1.Thechemicalmixtureofthegasvariesacrossregions
andisexpressedasthe“sealevelheatingvalue”.
2.Theheatingvaluevariesbyaltitude.Forthisreason,
especially in high altitude areas, the local gas utility
speciestheheatingvalueattheresidence’sgasmeter
asthe“localvalue”.
