6.4.7 PERISTALTIC PUMP FLOW CALIBRATION
Mount around the peristaltic pump the appropriate measuring set, run the
section of tube from the rear side of the pump to a graduated cylinder
positioned at the same level of the equipment, dip the tube from the front slot
of the peristaltic pump in a container filled with water. In the Peristaltic pump
settings frame, set Flow Max to 50cc/min, depress the footswitch to position #3
to aspirate water. Measure the amount of liquid removed in one minute (i.e.
54cc); set this figure in the Flow Max dial.
6.4.8 BUILDING THE LOOK UP TABLE
Do not install the I/A cassette, connect the Venturi pump input (close to the
upper right side of the peristaltic pump) to the vacuum sensor input by using
the appropriate calibration tool.
Start the look up table building by touching the appropriate radio dial.
The pressure to the Venturi pump will increase gradually and, therefore, the
pump will start building vacuum. Every 50mmHg, a point of the look up table is
taken and a beep is eared.
In a few minutes the table will be completed.
If the process is interrupted (by switching off the equipment) before the first
point is taken (50mmHg), the previous table is kept. If the process is
interrupted before completion at a later stage, it is strongly recommended to
restart a complete building cycle.
To exit the System Calibration Software, restart the system by switching the
PULSAR2 off and then back on.
6.4.9 SYSTEM TESTS AND CALIBRATIONS
The tests and calibrations below are performed while in standard mode
(standard user software).
1. VITRECTOMY VALVE Select repetitive mode (no single cut) and all cut
rates from 60 to 2000 cut/min, at each setting, depress the footswitch
beyond switch #2 and verify that the valve actuates.
2. PERISTALTIC PUMP Do not install the aspiration cassette, select
peristaltic aspiration mode and a vacuum of 100mmHg or more. Verify
that pump starts at switch #2 and stops immediately when the
footswitch is released. Verify that pump rotating speed increases as
flow rate is increased (at 50cc/min the rotation speed should be 80rpm
approx.).
