„The Back“22 | Ottobock
2.2 General Safety Instructions
Attention!
"The Back" IS NOT suitable to be used as the backrest for a seat when tted to a
mobility product that is to be used as a seat in transport in a motor vehicle! Please
transfer the user to a seat installed in the motor vehicle and use the corresponding
passenger restraint systems! Non-observance of these instructions could lead to
injury of the user, as well as of all other passengers in the motor vehicle, in case of
an accident.
Note!
Further information is available from your specialized dealer or on the Otto Bock
homepage www.ottobock.com.
Attention!
It may be necessary to slide the lower assembly adapters up or down to nd the most
suitable position for the user. Do not completely tighten the screws yet.
Attention!
Be careful with open ames as well as with the use of cigars or cigarettes. Falling
embers can cause the upholstery of "The Back" to catch re.
Attention!
Do not overtighten the screws to avoid deforming or damaging the assembly adapter
brackets.
Attention!
In Otto Bock wheelchairs that have desk side panels or long side panels, the notch
of the lower assembly adapter must face forwards. It may be necessary to shorten
the rigid back bars.
Attention!
It is important that the right and the left assembly adapter hooks are set equidistant
from the center (see Fig. 5). The distance "d" must be the same on both sides. If this
is not the case, "The Back" will not be level and may position the user incorrectly.
Attention!
Selection, positioning and installation of these or other seating positioning products
must be carried out by a qualied therapist or technician.
Attention!
Back inclination setting must be carried out by qualied technical personnel. It is
important to ensure that the angle of the back is set to no more than 10 degrees in
the anterior plane and no more than 12 degrees in the posterior plane. Ensure that all
screws of the upper mounting elements are properly tightened after any adjustments
are completed, and ensure the stability of the wheelchair is checked.
Attention!
The lower assembly adapter notch can be positioned in either the posterior position
(Fig. 2) or in the anterior position; however, in the anterior position the seat depth
will be affected.
Note!
The lumbar roll and the sacral wedge are most effective if they are used with a well-
positioned and properly adjusted belt restraint system, e.g. with a lap belt.
