Adjusting the Width of "The Back" to Fit the User
„The Back“ Ottobock | 25
5 Adjusting the Width of "The Back" to Fit the User
Measure the width of the users back. This measurement represents a starting width setting.
If this width differs from "The Back's" factory setting, follow the adjustment steps below.
Remove the Floam pad by opening all the hook and loop closures and the two snap fasteners.
The snap fasteners are at the top rear side of "The Back" (see Item 1, Fig. 7).
(If present, disassemble the additional lateral support by loosening the Phillips head screws.)
Open the hook and loop closure of the lateral covers as shown in Figure 7.
Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the 14 screws that hold together the center part and
the wings. The width can be adjusted by approximately 5 cm
(2.5 cm on the
right and left side
each) with one intermediate increment (2.5 cm; 1.25 cm on the right and left side each).
Put the blind rivet nuts and the screws into the selected bore holes at the extreme upper and
lower ends and tighten the screws just enough to check the width on the patient.
Now we recommend that you proceed as follows
1. If required, attach the lateral support.
2. Attach the Floam pad as described in section 9 "Removing and Attaching the Floam Pad".
3.
Attach "The Back" to the wheelchair back tubes. If the upper assembly adapter hooks do
not match the back width of the wheelchair, they can be adjusted as described in section 6
"Adjusting "The Back" to Fit the Wheelchair".
4. Ask the wheelchair user to sit down in the wheelchair and check back t.
5. If the back ts, remove the Floam pad and securely tighten the other (14 in total) attachment
screws and rivet nuts.
6. Re-attach the Floam pad.
7. You can now continue to attach "The Back" to the wheelchair.
6 Adjusting "The Back"
to Fit the Wheelchair
Once "The Back" has been adjusted to the requirements of the user, it must be adjusted to the
wheelchair.
The rigid back bar must protrude 10 mm (3/8) beyond the notch of the lower assembly adapter
(Fig. 3). It might be necessary to shorten the rigid back bars in order to make sure that they will
not conict with other wheelchair components (e.g. the spokes).
The upper assembly adapter hooks can be used to adjust the width (Fig. 4).
