Set [5. AE-L with AF Locked] in the
[A Custom Setting 1] menu (p.85) to lock the
exposure value while the focus is locked.
When you adjust the focus manually, you can use either the focus
indicator or the matte field in the viewfinder.
The focus indicator ] appears in the viewfinder when the subject is in
focus even during manual focus.
You can manually adjust the focus using the focus indicator ].

Locking Exposure when Focus is Locked

2 On Exposure is locked when the focus is locked.
