5.5 Post Procedure
Wearing medical surgical personal protective equipment gloves,
Disconnect the single use tip from the hand piece
Tips must be disposed in a biohazard medical waste container.
5.6 Structure of an Optical Fiber
The structure of an optical fiber normally consists of three main components:
Jacket
Cladding
Quartz/silica fiber or fiber core

Jacket
Jacket is the basic protective cover for the fiber cable and usually is made of a
synthetic material that is normally clear or white in color. There can be other colors
used but there are no standardized color systems to denote the diameter of the fiber
core or its use.
The jacket is required to be stripped off on the working tip at the hand piece.
Immediately upon disassembling the single use tip after the procedure,
ensure the protective optical fiber cap is placed over the fiber port to
prevent ingress of dust or other debris into the optical system.
Fiber optic stripping tool is not included. Protective safety eye wear is highly
recommended when stripping off the fiber optic jacket.
