Fuel Injection System
8.11
Symptom Possible Problem Corrective Action
Engine T urns Over But Will Not
Start
8 Pin Power Harness Verify that 8 Pin power harness is
correctly installed in the EMM.
12 Pin Stator Harness Verify that 12 Pin stator harness is
correctly installed in the EMM.
40 Pin EMM Harness Verify that 40 Pin EMM harness is
installed and bolted securely to
the EMM.
Communication Connection Connect EMM communication
loop together.
Stator not providing sufficient cur-
rent to system
Test AC output of the stator Refer
to page 8.2.
Stator is shorted out Perform resistance checks. Refer
to page 8.2.
Flywheel Key Verify that the flywheel key is not
sheared.
Place MAG piston at TDC and
verify that timing marks are vis-
able though the side timing hole
on flywheel cover .
ALSO, can remove CPS. Three
encode ribs should be visable.
The center rib should be straight
up and down.
Fuel Pump / Fuel Delivery Verify quality of fuel.
Remove any water from fuel sys-
tem.
Check fuel pump for proper opera-
tion.
Perform a resistance check on the
CPS. Replace if out of specifica-
tion.
Check 15A circuit breaker .
Verify fuel pressure at Shradert
valve.
Ground BRN wire from fuel pump.
If pump will not start, verify why.
Use Diagnostic Software to test.
Verify fuel lines are properly con-
nected to the fuel pump.
Fuel Injectors Use Diagnostic Software to check
for operation.
Verify voltage at each injector
while cranking. (18--22 VDC)
Use timing light on injector wires
while cranking to verify operation.
Ignition Coils Use timing light on high tension
leads to verify operation.
Use diagnostic software to test.
Verify resistance specifications.
