Symptom Possible Problem Corrective Action
Engine T urns Over But Will Not
Start
MFI Failure Jump PUR/W to BLK at the LR
module. If engine starts, repair
connection or replace the MFI.
Starter Motor Check starter motor. V erify that
starter motor is rotating engine
fast enough to start.
Check voltage drop while crank-
ing.
Lanyard Connection Connect lanyard to start / stop
switch.
Verify that 12VDC is present on
BLK/YEL wires. (Disconnect lan-
yard, voltage should drop to zero).
Start/StopSwitch V erify that start / stop switch is
working properly. Refer to the
electrical chapter .
Sensors CPS -- Perform resistance check.
Replace if out of specification.
TPS -- Verify that TPS is within
specifications. Re--connect or re-
place if TPS has failed.
Air Temp. -- Perform resistance
check.
W ater Temp. -- Perform resistance
check.
Use diagnostic software to re-
trieve any service codes and en-
gine monitoring.
Electrical / Wiring Verify that regulator/rectifier part
of EMM is functioning by connect-
ing the problem boat’s 8 and 12
pin connectors to a different EMM.
(Leave 40 pin connector in sus-
pect EMM).
Verify system has battery voltage
on EVERY RED/PUR wire.
Verify that battery voltage is pres-
ent on EVERY W/RED wire in
system while, and only during en-
gine cranking. (Voltage should
jump to 39--45VDC after engine
reaches 1150 RPM).
Verify that ANY BLK/YEL wire is
O.L. during turn over.
Check spark plug. Verify plugs
are NGK. Inspect for damage.
Battery Verify battery voltage. Refer to
electrical chapter .
EMM Install a second EMM and attempt
to start watercraft. (Only after
checking ALL troubleshooting pro-
cedures).
