Fuel Injection System
8.13
Symptom Possible Problem Corrective Action
Engine Starts and Dies Battery / Connections Check battery voltage. Tighten
any loose connections.
Engine Kill Switch Verify that ALL BLK/YEL circuits
are O.L. when lanyard is installed.
Fuel Pump / Fuel Delivery Check 15A circuit breaker.
Clean any foreign material or wa-
ter out of fuel tank and system.
Check electrical connections.
Checked for kinked fuel lines.
Verify 20--30 psi of fuel pressure.
Verify that fuel lines are routed
correctly. (Top=OUT, Bottom=IN)
Use fresh fuel.
Use Diagnostic software to check
the operation of the injectors.
Check spark plugs. If fouled, find
out why. Check sensors.
Perform cylinder drop test...isolate
possible rich or lean injector .
Ground Connections Check engine grounds.
Check splice block grounding
bars.
Ignition Check spark plugs for proper gap,
and heat range.
Verify that insulator tip is not
cracked or loose.
Verify that ignition system is prop-
erly grounded.
Use timing light to inspect timing
of ignition coils.
Verify that the flywheel key is not
sheared.
Use diagnostic software to verify
operation of ignition coils.
Verify that CPS resistance is with-
in specifications.
Mechanical Inspect engine for signs of water
ingestion.
Index crankshaft.
Verify compression.
Check overall condition of engine.
Electrical System Verify that ALL fuel injectors have
approximately 20V during crank-
ing. Voltage MUST step up to
39--45VDC when engine reaches
idle RPM.
