8.1.11 PAPER MISFEED DUPLEX PRINTING (GUIDE PLATE)
SERVICE CENTER CALL RESPONSE PROBABLE CAUSE OPERATOR ACTION
SERVICE TECHNICIAN (ST) and/or
NATIONAL RECLAMATION CENTER
(NRC) ACTION
A jam occurred between sensors during duplex
printing.
When paper is sent to the duplex unit during
duplex printing, the trailing edge sensor detected
the trailing edge of the paper but the registration
sensor could not detect the leading edge of the
paper.
Ask the operator to try the following procedures to
remove and prevent paper transport jams during
duplex printing. Also, check inside the duplex unit
or printer for paper. If you find paper inside the
duplex unit or printer, remove it, and then press
the [Paper Feed] key.
1. Paper that does not meet specifications was
used.
2. The reverse guide plate is closed.
3. Damage.
1. Use only paper that meets specifications
(including restrictions).
2. Close the reverse guide (lock on both ends).
3. Repair (ST) or replace (NRC).
(1) Check the type and condition of the paper,
then do the following procedures.
Use only paper that meets specifications
(including restrictions).
1-1 If the paper is thick (105 g/m
2
or more), feed
the paper manually for one-sided printing.
Feed roller slippage. Switch to manual feed with the bypass tray for
one-sided printing.
1-2 Do not use curled (less than 2 mm) or
wrinkled paper, especially when printing on
both sides of postcards. If the curl or wrinkling
cannot be removed before printing, replace
with new paper.
Curled or wrinkled paper jammed. Try to flatten curls, wrinkles, or replace paper.
1-3 Check the paper and if it is coated, make sure
it meets specifications for coated paper. Use
only coated paper that is recommended for
use with this printer.
Feed roller slippage. Switch to recommended paper.
1-4 Curl can develop if paper remains unus
ed and
loaded in the paper cassette for a long period.
Remove the curled or wrinkled paper.
Curled or wrinkled paper has jammed. Remove the curled or wrinkled paper.
(2) Disconnect the duplex unit and check the
reverse guide to make sure that reverse gui
de
is closed on both ends. If open, lock the
reverse guide on both ends.
Not closed after a jam was removed.
The difference in the pressure between the half-
locks of the reverse guide on the left and right side
(if both are not locked correctly) can cause the
paper to skew, preventing the paper from passing
feeding in the paper path.
Remove the duplex unit and make sure that the
reverse guide is locked on both sides.
