      If the flash on your Ricoh Digital Camera isn't firing, make sure the flash mode isn't set to Flash Off. Set it to Auto or Flash On. Also, the flash won't work in Continuous Shooting, Burst Shooting, Auto Bracketing, when the Focus Mode is set to Infinity, or in Movie, Underwater Movie, Fireworks, or Digital Microscope shooting modes.

Also, the Power Saving function might be activated, causing the display to dim automatically. Press any button to restore normal brightness, or disable the Power Saving function in the W Setting menu.

Try using focus lock or Manual Focus. Also, ensure the subject is within the focusing area in the center of the display; use focus lock to recompose if necessary.
