4.3.2. Exchange and renewal of primary gear on clutch drum
The primary gear (pos. 14) is fixed on the clutch
drum (pos. 12) with a hex. nut (pos. 21) The clutch
drum is also fitted with a mechanical overload clutch.
A professional exchange or renewal of the primary
gear is only possible with the specific holding device
(ROTAX part no. 676 190). Proceed as follows:
¨
Clamp holding device for primary gear
in a vice. If no ROTAX holding device
is used, protect the primary gear with
aluminium jaws from damage of teeth.
¨ Insert primary gear (pos. 14) in holding
device or clamp it in a vice.
¨ Place copper thrust washer (pos. 17 -
thickness 1 mm / 0,04 in.) on primary
gear.
¨ Fit clutch drum (pos. 12).
¨ Place copper thrust washer (pos. 18 - thickness 3 mm / 0,12 in.) on collar of primary
gear.
¨ Fit disk spring (pos. 19) with convex side upwards on collar of primary gear
¨ Place tab washer (pos. 20) onto disk spring.
¨ Apply LOCTITE 221 violet on the thread of hex. nut (pos. 21).
¨ Fix primary gear with hex. nut at clutch drum.
Tightening torque 10 Nm / 88 lb ft and additional one turn (360°)
Note: The hex. nut (pos. 21) has to be fitted so that the machined face of the hex. nut
shows towards clutch drum.
¨ Remove excessive LOCTITE.
¨ Bend the tab washer (pos. 20) with pliers over the hex. nut and tap it with a plastic
hammer to the hex. nut side.
Note: To allow fast exchange of gear ratios we recommend you to carry in stock various
pre-assembled clutch drums with the respective primary drive gears.
