Raise the presser foot.

Fabric positioning
Place fabric flat on top of needle plate and position
the fabric under presser foot.
While holding the thread tails with left hand turn
handwheel with right hand to insert the needle into
the fabric. Lower the presser foot and make 3-4
stitches.
Place hands on each side of the presser foot
and gently guide the fabric while sewing.
