Performing a System Hard Reset
If the SR4 produces one of the Controller Fault codes after running Diagnostic Mode, complete a
HARD RESET by following the instructions below. To perform this step, you will need the proprietary
SmartDrive M4 Security wrench to remove the SmartRecorder cameras as well as controller box.
Resetting the Controller Box will not erase any events clips from the Controller Box; it will force the
controller to reboot which will sometimes allow the unit to recover from an error state.
Locate the Controller Box
Use the SmartDrive M4 Security Wrench to remove the Controller from the mounting bracket. Then
remove the Front Cover to reveal the ‘Reset’ hole.
With the Ignition On (confirm via the lights on the controller box) gently insert a paper clip in the
hole. You will feel a button click and the Power and System lights will turn off for a few seconds. The
controller will then perform the Hard Reset; the System light will go solid once the reset has been
completed.
Once the Hard Reset has been completed run Diagnostics Mode once more. If you are still receiving
a Controller Fault code, replace the controller.
