6.4.1 Preparing the measuring procedure
Note
An optimum measurement requires a good argon atmosphere inside the spark
stand. Therefore, the opening of the spark stand must always be covered. This will
prevent oxygen from entering. A flat sample is highly recommended.
Oxygen inside the spark stand may result in poor burn spots (see Chapter 9
„Troubleshooting“). To remove oxygen from the spark stand, use the "Flush" button
on the computer to invoke the flush function.
Before starting the measurement, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that
the instrument is re-profiled (only LAVM12), see page 23,
the instrument is standardized (only LAVM12), see page 24,
the instrument is ICALized, (only LACM12), see page 24 and
the correct and base-relevant parts have been installed, see page 24.
2. Check the spark stand and the sample for any moisture.
It is important that no moisture is visible on the outside.
If necessary, dry the sample.
3. If working with toxic samples, ensure to verify the safety precautions.
The measurement is now prepared.
Re-profiling the optics and standardizing the instrument (only LAVM12)
Note
A re-profiling must always be followed by a standardization. In addition, a
verification with certified standards must be performed after any standardization.
Re-profiling the optics
After temperature stabilization, each optical system must be re-profiled.
Proceed as follows to re-profile the optical systems:
1. Call up the re-profiling mode.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen and perform the necessary
measurements with the profiling samples.
Re-profiling the optical systems is now complete.
