9 Troubleshooting
Fault Cause Remedy
The instrument cannot be
switched on.
The power plug is not
inserted properly.
Check if the power plug was
properly inserted.
Power is not available. Check the power supply.
Defective fuse. Check the fuse inside the
fuse box. If necessary,
replace the fuse.
The burn spot is incorrect. The argon outlet (exhaust) is
clogged with condensate.
Clean the spark stand
including the argon outlet.
Insufficient argon supply. Check argon supply and
pressure.
Poor argon quality. Connect new argon;
specifications, see chapter 3
„Technical data“.
Incorrect electrode gap. Clean the electrode and re-
adjust the gap using the
spacer.
Plasma generator defective. Please contact your service
center.
The samples have not been
prepared properly.
The sample surface is not
flat enough or has
inclusions.
Prepare sample properly,
(grind, turn or mill).
Low intensities in the optical
system.
Light inlet window dirty. Clean light inlet window
(MgF
2
).
The temperature of the optic
system is too high (see
"Status messages").
Dirt has accumulated on the
filter mat.
Change the filter mat.
